Because I stand on the stage myself, I know what performers actually care about. What follows is the performance record — recitals, concertos and chamber music — with recordings where they exist.
The complete Bach Suites — six suites, one evening
Bach's cello suites are six sets of six movements. Ever since Pablo Casals brought them back into the world's hands they have been treated as both the bible and the Everest of the instrument, and they contain about as much of nature and of a human life as music can hold.
Playing them feels to me like climbing a mountain that has an unlimited number of routes up it. Every climb shows you different scenery, and leaves you in a different frame of mind.
I built the programme around six threads — the beginner's mind, the search for meaning, joy and passion, the tower of wisdom, the valley, and rebirth — hoping the evening would send people home with something.

Both recitals were injury-prevention events
These two solo recitals doubled as performing-arts injury awareness concerts. Between the pieces I spoke directly to the players, students and parents in the hall about which discomforts should not be endured, and which signals mean it is time to be examined.
The February 2025 recital was the second of these. The first was in July 2022.
It is an odd thing to do in the middle of a Bach programme, and it works better than a lecture does — the audience has just watched someone use their body for two hours, so the subject is already in the room.
